Inspired viscerally by nature and the urban environment, my paintings are constructed of geometric patterns, set against a flowing spontaneity that creates contrast, tension and dynamic energy. The paintings bear some relationship to my sense of my surroundings, in a non-specific way.
I paint every day without a plan, set of rules or time constraint. Canvas laid flat on the floor – covered with combinations of acrylic, latex and oil house paints, varathane and deck stain, combined with remnants of paper, tape, raw canvas, drop sheets, packing foam and cardboard. The act of painting determines what the piece will become. The work evolves through a series of elimination and over painting – organized in a crucial balance of space, form and colour.
